Crawley-based start-up Fynlo AI has secured £45,093 in grant funding to accelerate development of an AI-powered carbon emissions intelligence platform for freight, logistics and aviation businesses.
Based at the Crawley Innovation Centre in Manor Royal, Fynlo AI is developing technology designed to help businesses measure carbon emissions from shipping and logistics more accurately.
The company’s platform uses operational data from multiple carriers to provide more precise, transparent and auditable emissions reporting. It is particularly focused on helping organisations understand and manage Scope 3 emissions – the indirect emissions generated throughout supply chains, including the transportation and shipment of goods. The £45,093 Greentech Business Growth Fund grant, awarded by Crawley Borough Council through its Local Regeneration Fund, will support further product development and commercial growth. Fynlo AI has also advanced Smart Freight Centre certification aligned with the GLEC Framework and ISO 14083 standards and has filed a patent for its shipment-level carbon calculation methodology. Matthew Leek, Co-Founder and CEO of Fynlo AI, said:
“Without this grant we would not have been able to finalise our Smart Freight Centre certification for our methodology and continue the development of the platform.”
The company’s progress also highlights the role of the Crawley Innovation Centre in supporting early-stage and growing technology businesses. Owned by Crawley Borough Council and located in the heart of the Manor Royal Business District, the centre provides flexible workspace and support for innovation-led businesses working across areas including clean energy, quantum technology and transportation technology. For the wider Gatwick Region, Fynlo AI is one example of the innovation-led businesses developing around aviation, advanced engineering, logistics and emerging technology.
The company’s focus on freight, aviation and carbon reporting sits at the intersection of several areas that are increasingly important to the region’s economy, while its base at Manor Royal places it within one of the South East’s established business and employment locations.
Crawley Borough Council’s Greentech Business Growth Fund forms part of a wider programme supporting green technology and low-carbon businesses in the borough. The fund offers grants to Crawley-based SMEs and start-ups to support business growth, product development and investment. (crawley.gov.uk)
As the Gatwick Region continues to promote investment across digital and AI, clean energy, aviation and advanced engineering, developments such as Fynlo AI demonstrate the range of businesses and technologies contributing to the region’s innovation ecosystem.
