Gatwick Diamond strengthens trade and investment links with Malaysia

19 October, 2026

Representatives from the Gatwick Diamond region visited Malaysia from 14 to 17 October 2026 to strengthen international trade links and explore new investment opportunities with the Malaysian state of Selangor.

The visit marked the next stage in a growing partnership between Invest Gatwick Diamond and Invest Selangor, following a Malaysian trade delegation to Crawley in July. The two organisations established a framework for closer collaboration on international trade, inward investment and business development, with discussions progressing towards a longer-term agreement.

The October programme coincided with the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, including the Selangor Investment and Industrial Park Expo (SPARK). Delegates also took part in the Selangor Investment Forum, connecting senior government representatives, investment officials and international business leaders.

The programme included meetings with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and the Malaysian Trade and Investment Centre, alongside discussions with British and European trade organisations, businesses and potential investment partners.

Brett North, Executive Director of Invest Gatwick Diamond, said the visit was an important step towards turning the relationship between the two regions into tangible opportunities for businesses.

The partnership builds on discussions held at Crawley Innovation Centre on 17 July, led by Selangor’s Chief Minister, Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari. These identified opportunities for collaboration across aerospace, advanced manufacturing, digital technology, logistics, innovation, skills development and sustainable aviation.

The October visit also helped develop connections for organisations with interests in Malaysia, including discussions involving the University of Sussex and businesses operating across tourism, technology, professional services and international trade.

With its international connectivity, established business base and access to key UK markets, the Gatwick region offers opportunities for Malaysian investors and commercial partners looking to establish a presence in the UK. In turn, the growing relationship provides businesses across the region with potential routes into Malaysia and wider Southeast Asian markets.

The programme forms part of wider efforts to connect businesses with international markets, strengthen cross-border partnerships and raise the profile of the Gatwick Airport Economic Zone as a destination for investment.
